The Poker Club of the Philippines and the Philippine Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) will hold the country?s first Poker King Challenge, a series of non-wager poker tournaments to be held starting on April 16 leading to the grand finals in December.

As host and participating sponsor, Pagcor will ensure proper decorum and the high standards of card play for all the tournaments. All pertinent rules governing the game of poker specific to the tournament will be applied.

Pagcor will also provide the venues where the leg tournaments will be held. The gaming corporation will likewise make available properly trained card dealer personnel and gaming paraphernalia such as playing cards, card shufflers, chips and players? tables on the tournament dates.

The 2005 Poker King Challenge will test the skills of poker game enthusiasts in their ability to best calculate probabilities while discerning opponents? reactions.

"Poker is a game of tension, correct judgment, and proper execution," according to Ray "Butch" Gamboa, Poker Club of the Philippines president. "This is a mind game and a business game as well."

The tournament fee for the leg competition is R1,000 and the first leg on April 16, 2005 at the Casino Filipino Hyatt Manila is limited to 60 participants on a first come, first serve basis.
