Poker pros headline team "Pokerbowl" event

Are you ready for team Texas Hold'em? The U.S. Poker League thinks so, as they're putting together the first-ever "Pokerbowl" for next April in Las Vegas, with six-player teams from 25 cities competing for national bragging rights and $1 million in prize money.

Teams are filling up quickly for the debut team poker event, with poker icons T.J. Cloutier (on the "Dallas Kowboys"), Phil Hellmuth (on the "Las Vegas Rat Pack") and Mike "the Mouth" Matusow (on the "Philadelphia Phish") among the heavy hitters already signed on to represent their cities.

"Poker Pros, Celebrities and Average Joes," is the tag line from the Pokerbowl Web site, as it's a combination of direct buy-ins, open satellite tournaments and sponsored pros that will make up the field. The "Las Vegas Rat Pack," for example, is full of pros or celebrities such as Hellmuth, Phil Laak, Phil Gordon, Jennifer Tilly, Antonio Esfandiari and Danny Masterson. The "Portland Piranhas," though, will be comprised entirely from a super satellite tournament.

Once the teams are set, action kicks off April 3, and they'll play down an extensive regional three-table format until a team with at least two members left can be declared the first-ever "Pokerbowl" champ and collect the spoils.
