Company awards student $25,000 in poker tournament

Susquehanna International Group LLP (SIG), a financial institution, found an interesting way to bring in college students who could be potential employees to see the business and what it has to offer them. The company hosted a Texas Hold'em poker tournament for 83 seniors from top colleges and gave out $25,000 to the winner.

Ayres Fan, who completed undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota and is now studying electrical engineering at MIT, was the winner for the evening. Second place and $15,000 went to Eric Eisenberg from Washington University, and third place with $10,000 went to Jeremy Maletz from Columbia University.

All of the participants were candidates for SIG's technology and trading development programs.

"The tournament was a successful vehicle for giving our top job candidates a more intimate look at Susquehanna and the many opportunities which can pursue here," said Todd Simkin, SIG director of recruiting. "While many of these candidates probably never heard of Susquehanna a year ago, now it's a name they will never forget."

SIG gave out more than $70,000 in prize money for the tournament which had delegates from colleges and universities including Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon, Claremont McKenna, Cornell, Duke, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, University of Chicago, and more.
