Paradise Poker sending 60 players to WPT event in Canada

Paradise Poker is sending 60 players to the World Poker Tour (WPT) North American Poker Championship taking place at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Oct. 25-29. The Niagara Falls stop on the WPT marks the third international location on the WPT tournament calendar this year and the WPT's first Canadian event.

Players who won their seats through Paradise Poker's $200 or $500 buy-in WPT Choice No-Limit Hold'em tournaments received one $12,000 WPT prize package that includes the $10,000 entry fee as well as travel costs.

Package winners will join several of Team Paradise's Canadian players, who are excited at the prospect of competing in a WPT event at home for the first time.

"A chance to win at home is special," said Jody Trainer, Abbotsford, BC-based Team Paradise player who recently won the Orleans Open in Las Vegas and was the number one poker tournament winner at the Vancouver, B.C., River Rock Casino in 2005.

"A lot of the Canadian players stick together on tour, and I know everyone is excited to have qualified to play in this event with Paradise Poker."

In addition to Trainer, Canadian Paradise Poker champ David Matthew, who recently won $1.9 million at the WPT Championship at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas, has already qualified as well as northern Canadian card kings Sean Daulat and Benny Chen.

All four play the poker circuit successfully, and all four participated in this year's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

"Team Paradise is working hard to bulk up and send a strong Canadian team to the North American Poker Championship in Niagara Falls," said Paradise Poker marketing director Scott Butler last week. "We think it would be wonderful for Canadian poker to have a Canadian win the event."
