€500,000 prize pool expected for Irish Poker Championships

The schedule for the Irish Poker Championships was announced this week with an expected prize pool of €500,000 for the final event, making it the biggest poker tournament ever staged in Ireland.

The tournament will be a series of nationwide events leading up to the All-Ireland Poker Final. There will be local satellites in Ireland as well as throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

Last year's main event was won by Kieran Walsh, a young business student from the Irish county of Cork, who took home €150,000. This year's winner is expected to receive €200,000.

The €1,000 buy-in final event will take place Jan. 6-8 at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, and organizers expect about 500 people to compete.

Jan. 5, Citywest Mega Satellite, €12,000 prize pool
Jan. 5, Citywest Main Event, €500,000 prize pool
Jan. 6, Citywest Supporting Event, €150,000 prize pool
