Michael Jordan wins charity poker tournament

Michael Jordan was the winner of the Trent Tucker Charity Poker Tournament that took place Sept. 8 at the Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club in Shakopee, Minn., to raise money for the Trent Tucker Youth Program.

Jordan beat out a field of about 120 players that included several other pro basketball players as well as pro poker players to win the event.


Several poker pros including Johnny Chan, Greg Raymer, Phil Gordon, and Phil Hellmuth, were on-hand to provide a challenge for Jordan in the No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament. Jordan toppled them all to claim his first tournament win and the $25,000 first place prize.

Hellmuth said in his blog after the tournament, "Jordan was definitely on cloud nine when he won, and who wouldn't have been? He told me that this was his first Hold'em tournament win, but he is a man that collects titles, so watch out poker world."

Jordan donated the prize back to the charity, which helps at-risk youth in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota by providing after-school programs, monthly field trips, and more. He also donated more money to the charity by buying a custom-made motorcycle for his friend Charles Oakley during the charity auction.
