Golden Palace Poker sponsors filmmaker's fights

Golden Palace Poker has signed on to sponsor Uwe Boll in his challenge to step into the boxing ring with his biggest critics.

Boll, a German filmmaker known for making several video-game-based movies, will take on four critics in Vancouver and another in Spain.

Boll's latest film "BoodRayne" was widely panned by critics earlier this year, and in response, he challenged the disparaging critics to join him in a boxing match. Anyone wanting to take him on had to have written at least two derogatory articles about his movies in 2005 and signed up to be considered for the fight.

"This event is perfect for us," said Richard Rowe, Golden Palace Poker CEO. "We receive so many outlandish offers for advertising exposure that it is refreshing to see something that surprises even us. That is why we decided to get involved. This has gotten so much attention so far, and we can't wait to see how it will turn out."

The Vancouver bouts will take place Sept. 23 with Bolls taking on Richard Kyanka from Lee's Summit, Mo., Webmaster and CEO for Something Awful; Jeff Sneider from Los Angeles, journalist for Ain't It Cool News; Chris Alexander from Toronto, Ontario, journalist/radio announcer for Rue Morgue; and Nelson Chance Minter from Fredrick, Md., Web site critic.

In Malaga, Spain, Boll will get in the ring with Carlos Palencia Jiménez-Argüello from Madrid, Spain, Webmaster of www.cinecutre.com. The date for the fight hasn't been set yet. All of the matches will be three rounds.

The participants won't just get to take a real shot at Boll, this is also an opportunity for them to receive international exposure. The fights are being recorded and scenes from them will be in Boll's next film, "Postal," which is currently in production in Vancouver.
