Strip poker champion declared Saturday

John Young, a 32-year-old freelance writer, was the winner of the World Strip Poker Championship in London Saturday. Nearly 200 players showed up from more than 12 countries to participate in the event.

For his efforts, Young won £10,000 and the "Gold Fig Leaf" trophy. After being declared the winner, he also secured £10,000 for Cancer Research by taking off his remaining clothes.

The crowd of 127 men and 68 women all started off on equal footing with £1,000 in chips and five items of clothing. They played Texas Hold'em until their money ran out and all of their clothes were gone, and then had to take a "walk of shame."

Darren Haines, spokesman for the event organizer, said it was supposed to be a "walk of shame" for those eliminated, but many of the players had fun with it, and there was a real party atmosphere for the tournament.
