South Korea gets strict on illegal gambling
A joint investigating team was formed with the police in South Korea last week to crack down on illegal gambling.
The Supreme Prosecutor's Office was who appointed the team, police, National Tax Service, and National Intelligence Service to take on this job. The National Tax Service(NTS) began by putting a tax audit on 54 gaming arcades and Internet cafes in suspicion they are running illegal gambling within.
The NTS plan to investigate and trace the money used within these illegal operations to find the ring leaders starting these gambling businesses.
Already more than 400 people have been arrested in connection with illegal gambling practices. The arrests have generated a large amount of confiscated cash for the country.
There are around 14,000 adult-only gaming arcades across the country, with about 11,000 of them with gambling services.
