Grandmother invents two poker-based board games

Joyce Ayers, a 68-year-old grandmother, has come up with two new ways for people to play poker with her invention of two poker-based board games.

Lightning Poker is played with three to eight players, with each player being dealt four cards. Each player antes up and then the cards are dealt face up. The object is to be able to clear all four of your cards using the 13 community cards as they're dealt to collect the main pot.

Pirate Poker is the second board game Ayers invented. In this game, also played with three to eight players, each person is dealt three cards face up all at once and then three cards face down one at a time with betting in between rounds of dealing. The object is to make the best five-card poker hand out of the six cards dealt.

After creating the games, Ayers took them to an inventors' convention in Pittsburgh, Penn., where she had a chance to market them. Since then she's received about 1,500 orders for the games which retail for $24.99 each.
