Aussie Millions Day 3 Update and WSOP Araya’s Win
There were some late registrants on 2012 Crown’s Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event and total number of players now went up to 659, 314 of which came back for some Day 2 action. Each one of them want to give their best shot in bagging their share of the $6.59 million prize pool, $1.6 million of which will be given to the top winner. There were 75 players remaining. Tim O’Shea, with his 921,000 in chips, is the best player to get the title. But things could still turn around as Phil Ivey is only over a hundred thousand chips behind with 778,500.
Day 2 started with a stacked field. Former Aussie Million champs participated: Stewart Scott, Tyron Krost, and even Gus Hansen who took advantage of the one-level late registration. But in the end, they didn’t last long. Tony G said Gus typically wants to move in buy Tony trapped him. It was only Lee Nelson who persisted, garnering 432,500 in chips.
With seven levels of play, 239 registered players hit the rail. But there were others who continued to thrive and succeed: Phil Ivey with 778,500 in chips, : Aage Ravn with 708,500 in chips, Jason Kon with 667,500 in chips, Oliver Speidel with 540,000 in chips, and Patrick Healy with 521,000 in chips.
Day 3 of the Aussie Millions Main Event is scheduled at 12:30 pm local time. There are still 75 players waiting to take their share of the money pot.
On a related note, a mini-Moneymaker story is making waves as Abraham Araya bags $270,380 at the WSOP Circuit Main Event held at the Choctaw Casino located in Durant, Okla. This native of Carrolton is an airline flight mechanic who was just laid off from his job and later on worked on private planes which went bankrupt. His luck changed when he spent $1,600 as buy-in for the Main Event and won $83,569. He estimates that he has received more money than he ever did working on planes for five years.
The past years, WSOP has brought us increasing payouts. Buy-ins range from $350 to $1600 while it can be as low as $70 for satellites.
With Moneymaker’s victpory in the past, and now Araya’s, the idea that anyone can be a champion in poker has become possible and reachable. Because of this, poker grew in popularity and since then has grew exponentially with every ESPN coverage and rerun.
