European Poker Awards Recap

On Sunday the 10th Annual Eurpoean Poker Awards took place in the Queenie Club of Paris, France. In years past the ceremony took place not far from there at the Aviation Club but the event has outgrown that venue. Awards given out at the event included the Rookie of the Year, Poker staff person of the year, Outstanding Tournament Performance, Internet Player of the Year and Player of the Year.

This year the Rookie of the year was Jake Cody from the UK. Cody also won the Player of The Year award. Cody burst on the poker scene this year winning the EPT Deauville and the WPT London event, plus more than $1,6 Million. He was not able to attend the Awards program this year because he was busy winning three more tournaments, the Ireland Poker Tour High Rollers Event and PokerStars UK events.

Poker Staff Person of the Year went to Gerard Serra Retamero of TK Events.
Winning the Outstanding Tournament Performance award was James Bord, WSOPE Champion.

With so many online poker rooms and online poker players winning big it was hard to find a clear winner for the Internet Poker Player of the Year, but the award went to Andreas Torbergse who won more than $4 Million online in 2010. Known by the screenname Skjervøy , Torbergsen is also a coach at Cardrunners.

Other awards presented at the event were the Lifetime Achievement Award that went to Nic Szeremeta and the Rob Gardner Memorial Award that was given to Tony G.
