PokerStars.com crowns second blogger poker champion

Dale Philips, poker player and blogger, beat out more than 2,200 participants to claim the title of champion during PokerStars.com's Second Annual World Blogger Championship of Online Poker (WBCOOP).

He won a $10,000 buy-in to this year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, as well as hotel accommodations in Las Vegas and $1,000 in spending money.


This year saw bloggers battling for nearly seven hours for a chance at $37,000 worth of prizes including the WSOP Main Event prize package, $1,500 WSOP entries, a $1,000 online heads-up match with actor-poker player Wil Wheaton, and many other prizes.

The 2006 WBCOOP saw a nearly 50% increase in players from last year's inaugural tournament. Even with such a large field, Philips said it wasn't until the end that he really felt nervous.

"Heads-up was the first time I've felt so nervous in a game of poker," Philip said. "The difference between first and second place being $10,500 was what got me shaking. I mean, that's a huge difference and a lot of money to me."

Last year 1,116 entrants qualified through PokerStars.com satellites for the 2005 WSOP. Opportunities are still available from the site to win a seat for this year's Main Event.
