Scotland poker club reopens after raid

Scotland's first poker venue has reopened after being raided Wednesday by the police. Cincinnati's Poker Club in Glasgow has been operating for less than one year, and has emerged at the center of U.K.-wide investigation into illegal gambling.

According to the club manager, Damon Ioannou, about 70 officers from the Gambling Commission questioned about 40 staff members and players for more than five hours during the raid. No arrests were made, but officials did seize computers and other equipment used for gambling.

The club was raided because of alleged breaches of the Gaming Act which prevents private clubs from collecting rake.

Ioannou said the club runs at a loss and that revenue comes from money from the bar or hiring out tables for functions rather than from rake or winnings. He also said that the owners of the club went to the police before opening to ensure they were within their legal rights and that no problems would arise.
