Poker Paddle-Hike-Ride event in Tampa Bay Area

This coming Saturday the Little Manatee River State Park in Wimauma, near Tampa Bay, will host its 10th annual Poker Paddle-Hike-Ride event.

The event will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the winner of the $100 prize will be announced at 2 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a variety of park projects and the day also will serve as a showcase for the facility.

The park features a 10-mile paddling trail for canoeists and kayakers, a 61/2-mile wildlife trail for hikers, and 12 miles of equestrian trails.

"We're always happy to have people come out and experience the park, especially if they've never been here before," said Cathy Moore, president of the Friends of the Little Manatee River Park.

Participants in the poker event may collect playing cards in sealed envelopes from up to six buckets along the trails. Players won't know how good their poker hands are until the winner is announced.

Cards will be placed along the hiking and equestrian trails and inside buckets along the paddling trail. Cards must be turned in by 1:30 p.m.

Players also may purchase additional sealed cards for $1 to improve their poker hands.
