Biggest Losers in Online Poker of 2009

There aren’t any online poker players who want to end up in this category but there has to be someone, or a few some ones. 2009 saw a few online poker players lose lots of money.

A couple players took rather large hits including Danish player Gus Hansen. At the beginning of the year Gus was making money, up $3 Million in January 2009. Most of those winnings came from beating Tom Dwan. After January Gus’ bankroll started to fall and remained that way for the rest of the year. Hansen intends to take some time off in 2010.

Speaking of Tom Dwan, he lost a lot of money in 2009! In the first two months of the year he had lost over $4 Million, but managed to recover and be profitable by mid year. The last half of the year was bad as he lost more than $5 Million to online player Isildur1.

And this Isildur1, whose identity is still unknown, burst onto the online poker seen in September and took more than $5Million from Dwan. It didn’t take long before he lost it all to Phil Ivey and Patrick Antonious.

On the brighter side, Ivey and Antonious both ended up ahead by the end of 2009, with Antonious having improved his bankroll by nearly $9 Million!
