‘Face the Ace’ debuts as contestants beat the pros
The newest and widely talked about poker show, ‘Face the Ace’ debuted Saturday night and was a great opener. If this first episode is any indication of how the rest of the season will play out then we are in for a wild ride.
One of the first contestants was Don ‘Basement Dweller’ Topel, and he ran over Erick Lindgren and Howard Lederer on his quest to chase down the top prize of $1 Million. The first contestant was Jonathan Nygaard. Nygaard took down the best Texas Hold’em player in the world, Phil Ivey. Ivey will be part of the “November Nine” WSOP final table players and is the favorite to win that bracelet.
The setup of Face the Ace is something like this; contestants pick one of the pros for a heads up game from behind one of four doors. The four ‘aces’ doors cannot be seen through so players don’t know who they are choosing to play against. The first game is for $40,000. If the contestant wins, they can keep the $40,000 or play a different pro for $200,000. If the contestant wins the second match, they can keep the $200,000 or play a third pro for $1,000,000. Win a third match and they take home $1 million. If the contestant loses at any point, they walk away with nothing.

The first contestant, Nygaard, walked away with $40K after taking down Phil Ivey. But you just have to love Don “Basement Dweller” Topel's decision to let it all ride and play for the million dollars. Topel was deemed “Basement Dweller” by the show's host, Steve Schirripa (Sopranos), because he lives in his basement while his mom, sisters and nieces all live upstairs. If he wins the million, he's gonna get them all new homes, but continue to live in his basement. He says he likes it down there.
Be sure to catch next weeks episode on August 8th. If you are interested n becoming a contestant on the show, go to FaceTheAce.com and register for one of the free qualifying tournaments on Full Tilt Poker.
