Celebrate National Poker Week

This week is National Poker Week and the Poker Players Alliance is asking all US poker players, “have you signed our petition yet?” If you haven’t click here and get to it.

The goal of Poker Week, which runs from July 19 to 25, and is put on by the PPA (Poker Players Alliance), is to send a clear message to President Obama and US lawmakers that their constituents support poker and would like to see legislation brought about to regulate and license the game.

Poker Week comes at an important time, since hearings on legislation introduced by U.S. Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) to regulate and license online gambling were delayed from July until some time in September.

Over 352,000 have already signed the petition as of today, but that is a long way to the goal of 500,000 signatures.

"We all have a right to play poker and taking away that right sets a dangerous precedent that no American should stand for," stated Annie Duke, WSOP bracelet winner and UltimateBet Consultant, who will join activities in Washington D.C. "There's a lot of work to do to ensure that poker players and the game get the respect they deserve but we're getting there."

It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans are now playing poker online. The PPA is a nonprofit organization of over 1 million members, comprised of poker players and enthusiasts from around the United States who have joined together to speak with one bigger voice to promote the game of poker and ensure its integrity.

Visit http://theppa.org to find out more about PPA and their many activities to protect poker.

Dozens of high-profile professionals and over 30 state PPA representatives will attend a rally this week in Washington D.C. and help deliver a petition to President Obama on July 22 asking for his support in the licensing and regulation of online poker.
