WSOP Event #2 Recap

The second event of the 2009 World Series of Poker was one of the bigger buy ins of the series. Event #2 was the 40th Anniversary $40,000 No Limit Hold’em game that saw and impressive 201 players put their money in hoping to win their share of the $7.7 Million prize pool.

The field was filled with some of the biggest names in poker and a few unknowns as well. Last year’s Main Event winner Peter Eastgate was on hand as well as John Juanda, Vanessa Russo, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen and several others.

The 4 day event had players start with quite a deep stack of chips, 120,000 to be exact. After the first day of play, 89 players remained, and just 23 players would come back for day 3. Going into the 4th day of play, the final table was set.

It was a long day, more than 12 hours before the winner was announced for this event. Congrats to Vitaly Lunkin who wins his second WSOP bracelet and almost $1.9Million.
