2009 World Series of Poker underway

This years World Series of Poker should be quite a memorable one. Not just because it is the 40th Anniversary of the Series but because some new records have been broken.

The WSOP will host 57 Events over the next few weeks, including the 40th Anniversary Event, the 'Stimulus Special', and the Main Event will be played down to its final table.

Five of the 57 games have now been started or are already finished. There seems to be no indication of a struggling economy on the floor of the Amazon Room, and the multiple other rooms being used at the Rio.

WSOP officials added what was dubbed as the 'Stimulus Special' event this year. It was a $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event that saw almost 6000 registered players.

One of our staff members, Chris, played in this event and had the good fortune to be seated next to PokerStars Pro Hevad Khan. After almost 9 hours of play, Chris was all in with AQ and came up against AK. With an ace on the table he lost most of his chip stack and just a few hands later was out of the event. He did outlast more than 2400 other players including several pros.
