Trio suspected in poker machine robberies
In New Zealand police are investigating a Hamilton trio's involvement in a spate of poker machine robberies in the North Island.
The three Hamilton men were arrested yesterday after two bars in the area had money stolen from poker machines.
Police were also investigating the men's involvement in nearly 60 poker machine robberies in the North Island -- mostly in the Waikato and King Country.
The men, Charles Runga, 33, Harley Randall, 29, and Patrick Marra, 24, appeared in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday and were remanded in custody until May 29.
New Plymouth Police Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward told the Taranaki Daily News there had been a significant number of similar burglaries targeting poker machines throughout the North Island in the past three or four years.
The men were "considered suspects" in these robberies, Mr Coward said.
Police allege the men had hit five bars around New Plymouth in the last few months.
Police had recovered $1300 in $2 coins.
