Bodog.com goes back to Bodog after legal battle

Bodog is once again the proud owner of their original domain name Bodog.com. After settling a patent infringement lawsuit with 1st Technology LLC, the online sportsbetting, casino and poker room has regained the right to the website.

The domain Bodog.com and the domain BodogLife.com haven’t yet been reconnected. Both websites still run independently and do not forward to one another. As stated in a press release by Morris Mohawk, the company that owns the rights to market Bodog in North America, “This settlement ends the series of 1st Technology's lawsuits addressing the alleged use of patents in the 1st Technology portfolio. The settlement also resolves 1st Technology's judgment collection efforts.” Patents for what the press release calls “advanced media products” are included in the settlement and deal with transmission of data through mediums such as telephones, WiFi, and cable.

Bodog had originally lost control of Bodog.com following a patent infringement lawsuit in 2007. After that event, the operations quickly gained a new domain BodogLife.com. Head of Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, Alwyn Morris, is excited to be moving on with business as usual following this settlement. “We are pleased to have worked constructively with 1st Technology and its principals to bring an end to this protracted dispute. This resolution will provide certainty and will also allow us to continue to enhance our technology base for online gaming in order to provide our users with unfettered access to the best technology,” says Morris.

The agreement between Morris Mohawk and Bodog for the rights to market to Northern America was set in place in September of 2007. Just a month prior to that agreement, Bodog had lost a $48 million default judgment in connection with the domain and had launched NewBodog.com until operations were moved to the current domain BodogLife.com.


Players are still able to log into their gaming accounts with no problems or additional downloads needed. Exciting news for players since the 3rd Bodog Poker Open begins in less than a week. The event begins on April 26th and will feature three series of tournaments with a total of 26 events. Tournament games will vary daily and some will have guaranteed prize pools.
