Ohio Relay for Life Team hosts Poker Tournament

FREMONT, OH --On March 28th, The Memorial Hospital Relay for Life Team will be hosting a Texas Hold 'Em tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society. Registration for this tournament will open at 3 p.m. at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds in the Flower Building.

According to Heather Deitzel, Relay for Life team member and MRI Technologist at Memorial Hospital, "With the popularity of poker right now, we are hoping to provide an entertaining platform that raises cancer awareness to all segments of the population of Sandusky County."

The buy in for this tournament is $40 and rebuys will be available. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the ACS and the Sandusky County Relay for Life team.

The ACS provides people living with cancer and their families with resources such as caregiver information, preventative measures and other support programs and tools.

"Cancer affects everyone; we see it in family, friends, colleagues and patients as well as at every age, and in each gender and race," said Deitzel. "The Texas Hold 'Em tournament and the Sandusky Country Relay for Life are fun fundraising events that engage the community."

According to The Relay For Life Web site, it is "a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times."

This year's Relay for Life in Sandusky County will run June 19th and 20th and will be held at Conner Park.
