Record breaking Carbon Poker Badbeat Jackpot won by New Yorker
Friday the 13th may be an unlucky day for some people but one player at Carbon Poker proved that it can be quite lucky. The Merge Gaming network announced that one player hit their record BadBeat Jackpot on Friday, February 13th. The lucky player won more than $417k as the jackpot was over $1.2Million. Don’t worry, the jackpot was reseeded and is now over $240,000.
The lucky player, “Ruggio” won the jackpot at a $.50/$1 No Limit Hold’em table. In the end he held a straight flush of hearts from 7 to Jack. Another player ‘AELANI’ held a straight flush also, but his was from 9 to King. AELANI took home an extra $209k for his part in the badbeat. The other five players seated at the table each received $41,739.
That memorable hand played out like this… Ruggio held the 8 and 7 of hearts while AELANI held the King and Queen of hearts. The flop showed 3d, 9h, Jh. With both players on a straight flush draw AELANI made an $8 bet which was quickly called. As the flop showed the 10h, AELANI bet $20, Ruggio raised to $35, which in turn made AELANI go all in and Ruggio called the bet. Both players cards were shown and both held straight flushes, although AELANI’s hand was higher. Ruggio was devastated until he saw the chips raining down his screen and realized that he had hit the BadBeat Jackpot and had won nearly a half million dollars.
"My first reaction when I saw that I hit a piece of the Jackpot was 'oh my God', I am paying for college completely on my own through student loans so first and foremost I thought about how I would be able to pay off all my student loans and start my life in the real world debt-free." AELANI, from Northwestern University, Chicago said of his win. "Congratulations to all players who made this a part of history and share in the jackpot of almost $1,200,000, however, the fun is not over, the bad beat has been reseeded and is already sitting at $240,000." commented Jay Manning, a Carbon Poker spokesman. "We are thrilled that the Bad Beat has gone off and we have set a new bar for the industry. We never envisaged the Bad beat would take so long to hit, after all we have the lowest qualifying hand anywhere online", said Manning.
Carbon Poker’s BadBeat Jackpot was started last year and this was the first payout. The jackpot is seeded by $.50 from every cash table that is listed as a ‘Bad Beat table’ and will pay out whenever a hand of quad 7’s or higher is busted. That is currently the lowest qualifying bad beat hand in the online poker world.
