Lake Tahoe casino plans new Poker room

CRYSTAL BAY, NEV. — Poker enthusiasts will be able to play Texas Hold’em and Pineapple at the Crystal Bay Club when the casino opens its new poker room Dec. 15.

“It’s something we had thought about for a long time,” said Bill Wood, general manager of the Crystal Bay Club.

He said when Jim Kelley’s Nugget closed it’s poker room, the CBC saw an opportunity to fill a void.

“We’ve had some of our customers ask us for it and we wanted to give them this option,” Wood said.

Once it opens, the CBC will be one of the two casinos on the North Shore that offers poker, the other is the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe.

Nugget owner Jeff Kelley said the casino decided to close its poker room for financial reasons.

“Poker has been on a decline in the North Shore,” he said. “It had a big run when the poker tournaments were on TV and then it started to lose steam."

Kelley said the casino may put a restaurant where the poker tables were located.

As for the Crystal Bay Club’s poker room, it will feature a newly remodeled area with new furniture, tables and security system. Wood estimated the cost of the renovation between $30,000 and $40,000.
