New Poker Champs signs with Poker Royalty
Every year, the winner of the World Series of Poker Main Event earns instant celebrity status. This year’s winner, Peter Eastgate is no exception. As the new world champion of poker, his will be the face of poker until another winner is crowned next year. With that title comes the challenge of handling public appearances and many other things.
The good thing is that Eastgate will not be on his own. He has chosen Poker Royalty to act on his behalf in helping with management, marketing, media events, sponsorship, commercial endorsements and appearances. "I believe the team at Poker Royalty is best suited to help me navigate through the duties and opportunities that arise as the reigning World Series of Poker Champion," Eastgate said. "They represent the biggest names in poker and I'm honored to have them working on my behalf." Hailing from Denmark, Eastgate has now become a multimillionaire since his $9 million win at the WSOP Main Event. He is also the youngest player ever to earn the title, which was previously held by Phil Hellmuth for almost 20 years. Eastgate has been playing poker professionally since 2005, he left college to play poker online. Most of his professional career has been spent playing online poker where he typically plays in heads up cash games at the $200/$400 level and at short-handed games. "Peter is the epitome of the young, intelligent and fearless online poker professional whose game has translated fantastically to the world of live tournament poker," said Jim Erwood, Poker Royalty director of European operations. "It is a very unique opportunity for us, because he's a very marketable 22 year international player with $9,000,000 in the bank. Peter can afford to be very selective with the endorsement relationships he chooses and align himself with opportunities that suit him perfectly." As one of the top Internet pros, Eastgate has already been associated with Ladbrokes Poker and PokerStars. Some of his other forays into the live poker realm have been in events organized by those online poker sites. He played in Ladbrokes’ Poker Million in both 2006 and 2007 but failed to cash either time. He did, however, cash a couple times in this years PokerStars.com European Poker Tour. At the Scandinavian Open he cashed in 32nd place, and during the four-month hiatus before the WSOP Main Event final table, Eastgate picked up an 18th-place cash in the European Poker Championships in London. It's likely the poker world will be seeing lots more of Eastgate in the upcoming year as he makes the rounds on the poker circuit and serves as the face of the game.
