Heads up time

The Main Event is down to its final 2 players so here is the recap of how we got there.

Shortly before the dinner break last night we saw the 7th place finisher, David “Chino” Rheem bust out and win $1,772,6250.

The remaining 6 players took a much needed dinner break and action resumed one hour later. It was just 18 hands after dinner that Darus Suharto was the 6th place finisher. He was up against fellow Canadian Scott Montgomery in his final hand as Montgomery’s nut flush held up forcing Suharto out of play. He will take home prize money of $2,418,562.

With just 5 players left the chip counts were relatively close. That is until a few hands later when Ivan Demidov goes up against Montgomery and Demidov’s pocket kings hold up leaving Montgomery with a little over $7million in chips, and Demidov with more than $50 million. As it would be, just 5 hands later Montgomery was out in 5th place with his earnings of $3,096,768.

Players took a short break after the 5th place elimination and then it was back to business, and 34 more hands later it was time for another break, even though no one else had been eliminated. Only 34 hands later we would have our 4th place player eliminated. Ylon Schwartz, who had been the chip leader for a good portion of the early play was now going home, $3,774,974 richer!

With just 3 players left the action became a bit different. It was a battle of who was going to raise preflop. It seemed for several hand that the player who did that would take down the pot. Shortly after midnight we would see Dennis Phillips eliminated in 3rd place and take home $4,517,773.

Play is now suspended as we await the heads up action between Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate. Chip count is:

Demidov 79,500,000
Eastgate 57,725,000

Heads up play will resume at 10pm Las Vegas time today.
