Got cash? Poker glory could await

The thing about competing in a poker tournament at some of the highest levels is you don't need to supply a résumé or provide a portfolio as proof of your credentials.

In this case, $5,150 — $5,000 for the buy-in and $150 for the entry fee. Plunk down the money and you guarantee yourself a seat in the World Series of Poker Circuit event that begins at noon Friday at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.

The winner of the three-day no-limit hold'em tournament will earn first-place prize money determined by the size of the field and a seat in the $10,000 buy-in main event at the 2009 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas plus $2,000 for expenses.

A less expensive alternative is buying into the Horseshoe's $540 single-table satellites. That will run until someone in the Venue opens the main event with poker's customary "Shuffle up and deal." The winner of the satellite earns a seat in the circuit tournament.
