Poker Players Favor Scott Montgomery 2-to-1 to Win the World Series of Poker (WSOP)

Montgomery Considered as "Most Skilled" of the November Nine

NEW YORK, Jul 31, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Scott Montgomery is the overwhelming choice to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP), according to a new DuplicatePoker.com poll. Twenty-nine percent of 1106 poker players surveyed named Canadian Scott Montgomery by a more than a 2-to-1 margin over the rest of the November Nine WSOP finalists. Ivan Demidov (Russia) and chip leader Illinois-resident Dennis Phillips, already seated in position one at the Final Table with 26 million chips, were named by 13 and 12 percent respectively as the expected runners-up. Montgomery also was voted the most skilled of the WSOP finalists and the most likely to win a Duplicate Poker tournament.
The Duplicate Poker Poll also revealed the widespread believe among poker players that skill has everything to do with poker success. Nearly 90 percent said skill has a greater impact on poker success than luck.
Duplicate Poker, one of the fastest growing online poker communities, is a skill-based game that applies the scoring from Duplicate Bridge to Texas Hold'Em. Since players sitting at the same position at different tables are dealt the same cards under the same conditions, Duplicate Poker eliminates the luck of the draw and pits players' true gaming skills against each other.
According to Moshe Davidovich, chief operating officer of DuplicatePoker.com, "The most skilled poker players have the ability to effectively manage a game and rely purely on technique. In this regard, Scott Montgomery stands out. And as our poll indicates, he has gained a high level of respect for his skills among poker circles."
Following, in rank order, is who respondents believe will win the World Series of Poker on November 9th according to the Duplicate Poker Poll:
Scott Montgomery 29 percent
Ivan Demidov 13 percent
Dennis Phillips 12 percent
Peter Eastgate 10 percent
Craig Marquis 10 percent
Chino Rheem 9 percent
Kelly Kim 9 percent
Ylon Schwartz 4 percent
Darus Suharto 4 percent

According to the Duplicate Poker Poll, California-resident Kelly Kim would do better playing in a DuplicatePoker.com tournament than the WSOP. Players perceive him to be more skilled than lucky. According to Mr. Davidovich, "Kim is a dark horse favorite of the skilled player set. The bump in ranking by poll respondents reflects an appreciation for his table savvy and his pure poker skills."
