Governor wants poker room in official residence

West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin has ordered several poker tables as part of a five-page request of items to furnish the second and third floors of the Governor's Mansion in the state capital, Charleston.

Manchin, who has come under fire from local media outlets for his "noncommittal" attitude regarding the inclusion of gaming tables at state racetracks, has requested two poker tables from high-quality furniture manufacturer Hooker Furniture.

According to the Charleston Gazette online edition, the poker tables each weigh 216 pounds and include "a birch veneer top that reverses into a felt poker surface." The tables are outfitted with a wood border that features poker chip and drink holders.

The Governor has also ordered "one counter-height dining/game table, featuring chip drawers at each player station, and three-shelf pedestals for drinks and snacks, featuring brass inlays" from the Martinsville, Va.-based furniture company.
