World Series Of Poker Breaks Records

That's up from last year's record of close to 55 thousand players. And the total prize pool for all of this year's poker events now stands at more than 180 million dollars, far ahead of the nearly 160-million dollars collected in the 2007 tournament. That's larger than those of the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, the Masters and the Kentucky Derby combined. Tournament officials expect to hand out more prize money to more players this year. The first-round competition of the main event is underway and will continue until July 14th, when the final table of nine players emerge. The nine finalists will return to Las Vegas on November 9th, where play resumes until a new champion is crowned. The final table results from the Rio hotel will be broadcast as a two-hour special on ESPN November 11th.
