Poker game unfolds with arrest of one

LIBERTY TWP.,PA -- A friendly Saturday night poker game turned ugly when a player allegedly stole back the money he lost, court records show.

Bruce W. Harris II, 23, of Morristown, N.J., is charged with theft and assault.

He allegedly accused a man identified in court papers as Douglas A. Boyle of cheating after the game held at a home in the 400 block of Route 46.

"They were playing poker for money," according to court papers filed by New Jersey State Police at Washington.

"Mr. Harris accused Mr. Boyle of cheating and he wanted his money back," police reported.

Witnesses Richard and Natalie Johnson tried to escort Harris off the property and a scuffle ensued, police said.

"Mr. Harris reached into Mr. Boyle's pocket and grabbed $605 in cash," police reported. "He then pushed Mrs. Johnson out of his way and in the process scratched Mrs. Johnson across the chest leaving visible signs of injury."

Private poker games are legal in New Jersey as long as no one is taking a cut.
