'Pure luck pays as novice Rebecca seals poker win

Hart Shaw's annual poker tournament proved to be a game of luck, as a novice claimed the winnings.

The third Texas Hold 'Em Poker tournament, organised by the leading South Yorkshire accountants, saw 16 qualifiers from previous rounds go head-to-head in the Grand Final.

Rebecca Fells from HLW was flushed with success after taking the title, winning a holiday voucher worth £500 and proving that a novice player should never be underestimated.

She said: "The tournament was really good fun and a great way to meet others in the finance sector. I've only played poker once before so I was really surprised I won. I didn't really know what tactics to play and was happy not to get knocked out in the wildcard. I think it was down to pure luck that I made it to the Grand Final table and a miracle that I won!"

The final which was held at The Place in Broomhill, Sheffield, proved to be just as popular with the professional community as previous years' tournaments.

Tournament organiser Mark Sims, Corporate Finance Executive at Hart Shaw, said: "Our congratulations go to Rebecca, and our thanks go to all participants for making this year's event another great success. We look forward to 2009's tournament."
