Borgata Summer Poker Open Drawing Strong Crowds

While the 2008 World Series of Poker is dominating the headlines out of Las Vegas, there’s also some noise being made on the East Coast.

The 2008 Borgata Summer Poker Open began June 9 and eight events have already been completed. Buy-ins for those events ranged from $200 to $1,000. Some of the best players on the East Coast are skipping out on the WSOP to chase down the action at the Borgata.

Joey “JOEYTHEB” Brooks, Lou Rousso, Thomas Coan, Boris “fratboy247” Kravets, Nick Frangos, Dave Fillipi, and Todd Rebello have all been playing the events. The $1,000 buy-in event was won by Vladimir Peck. The 517-player field made for a prize pool of $376,000 with Peck taking home $109,040 for first place.

There are four preliminary events still left on the schedule before the Championship Event. The $5,000 buy-in Championship Event starts Sunday at 11 am. Players will receive 5,000 chips to start and a number of top players are expected to make their way to the event.
