Kids Ride Charity Poker Run Saturday

It's once again time to ride for a great cause.

This year's Kawartha Kids Ride Charity Poker Run will take place this coming Saturday, June 7.

The ride, now in its sixth year, will start at Captain's Restaurant and Kawartha Lakes Inn on Highway 35, just south of Lindsay and end at The Granary in Bethany.

William Hancock is the founder of the event, which supports the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Foundation.

He, along with friends and committee members Jamie Mason, Jack White, Jack Larabee, Joe O'Connell, Troy Bailey, Jason Henley, Dave Joyce, Lisa Mason and Al Train run the charity event.

"It all came across by talking to family and friends and realizing we should be doing something good for people," he said. "The money raised goes to kids."

The money goes to enable children that have been abused sexually, physically and emotionally to go to camp.

Hancock said last year's event involved between 150 and 200 people and raised $7,500, an amount they hope to top this year.

To raise some extra money there will also be a dance after the ride at the Granary in Bethany.

There will be shuttle buses leaving Lindsay at 7 p. m. at the William Street bus terminal and coming back from Bethany at 12 a. m.

There is a $20 registration fee per rider (which includes the ride, a poker hand and dance admission) or it is free with $50 in donations.

Registration begins on Saturday, June 7 from 9 to 10:30 a. m.

The ride will begin at 11 a. m with the route going through Lindsay.

There will be a 50/50 draw and other prizes.

The dance begins at 8 p. m. and goes to 1 a. m. Admission is $10 for non-riders at the door.

For more information or to register please visit www.kkride.com or call Hancock at 324-2763.
