Italy continues to ban illegal foreign casino and poker websites

This measure for the first time has affected two “.it”sites
(Italy).- AAMS (the Italian Authority on the gaming market) has recently banned some
more 35 betting poker and casino websites deemed illegal to add to the previous list of
banned sites. At present, the number of websites which players from Italy cannot connect
to amounts to 586.

This measure for the first time has affected two “.it”sites (“expekt.it”
and “delicato.it”) because they were not abiding Italian rules. In the latest Italian
list of banned sites names such as Ladbrokes, Betandwin, Betshop, Eurobet, William Hill
and Betfair appear.

This further turn of the screw occurred in the same week the EU Commission decided to
extend to three months the term granted to Finland to give an explanation on legality of
its state gaming monopoly after Ladbroker’s complaints. In some Italian observers’ point
of view the real issue is not concerning betting gathering but the opportunity to bet on
casino and poker online only because these services cannot be provided in the country as
this is not allowed by our law. As casinos and poker have a strong compulsive effect on
population legislators are firm in not assuming any permissive stance.

In Italy videopoker machines can no more be installed in locals for the same reason. The
Italian Government has also recently blocked the proposition to raise the number of
casinos in the country. AAMS has only therefore banned sites that even if they appear
abiding rules they can be actually deemed illegal because of their links to services
that are not compatible with Italian law.
