Accountants dealt in by poker giants

South Yorkshire -- Sheffield accountants Hart Shaw have been appointed as advisors to a major name in online gaming.

Hart Shaw accountants are acting as reporting accountants for Devilfish Gaming plc which started trading in 2005 and floated on the Plus Market Stock Exchange on March 5.

Manchester-based Devilfish Gaming plc operates the devilfishpoker.com site, named after the UK’s number one poker player Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, and has a market value in excess of £3.2 million.

Though Ulliott does not sit on the company’s board, he is the largest shareholder with a 27.8 per cent stake.

The website has more than 6,000 registered users and is trading following the effects of the introduction of a ban on poker sites in the US in 2006.

Devilfish is one of the few internet gaming companies to float since the restriction was imposed 18 months ago and is concentrating on growing its revenues in other parts of the world.

Hart Shaw’s head of corporate finance, Chris Sellars, said: “We were recommended to Devilfish by a London client active in the AIM and PLUS markets.”

Hart Shaw are holding their third annual Texas Hold ’Em poker tournament for professionals in Sheffield.
