Poker player killed in Trinidad bar robbery

A 40-year-old mother and poker player was killed during a bar robbery in Trinidad last Sunday evening.

Juliet Montrose was shot point blank through the forehead at 11 p.m. at the Sunset Bar in Fanny Village, Point Fortin, by bandits who came to rob gamblers competing in a poker match that night.

Montrose, who locals say was a good poker player, was spending the evening playing poker at the bar with friends when three robbers entered the establishment. Police said just one of the bandits was armed and was supposed to keep the patrons at bay while his accomplices collected money and kept watch outside the bar.

According to a report at Trinidad Express.com, Montrose answered her phone "seconds after patrons were confronted" by the robbers. Police suspect the armed killer panicked and shot Montrose, believing she would inform the caller about the events unfolding in the bar.

All three robbers subsequently fled the scene empty-handed and remain at large. Police continue to investigate the case.

Montrose was taken to a local hospital but died in the car because no one was around to help lift her from the vehicle.
