Little League betting on poker tournament

Berkely, New Jersey -- The Berkeley Little League's charity Texas hold 'em poker tournament is offering $5,000 in prizes, including a grand prize of a home theater system.

The tournament will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Bayville Elks lodge, 247 Route 9.

The event will raise funds for the league's new all-weather practice facility on Moorage Avenue.

The grand prize includes a 46-inch Sharp Aquos TV, a Toshiba HD DVD player and a surround-sound system.

In addition, every player at the final table will win a prize, such as a home computer, a digital camera or a navigation system.

Chris Cranmer � local radio personality from WCHR-FM 105.7, The Hawk � will join the players, and the crew from the radio station will play classic rock at the event, said Bob Everett, league president.

The entry fee is $100 per player and includes $10,000 in starting chips, buffet snacks and a tournament T-shirt.

A cash bar will be available, and patrons must be 21 or older.

Players registering by Feb. 1 will receive a bonus of $1,000 in starting chips, Everett said.

No chips have cash value, and no cash prizes will be awarded; however, a separate cash 50-50 will be held.

"Beginners are welcome, and due to popular demand, we will be holding a practice game for those who would like to learn how to play or who want to hone their card playing skills," Everett said.

The practice game will take place Feb. 13 at the lodge, and it is free.

However, people must register in advance to participate, he said.
