Poker Tour goes to Macau

THE Asia Pacific Poker Tour announced recently that the Chinese island of Macau will host the third leg of the biggest poker tournament in the region on Nov. 22 to 27, a development welcomed by Filipino players and poker enthusiasts.

PokerStars.net-Philippines chairman Franco Mabanta said that the addition of Macau in the tour schedule gives Filipino players a big chance to pit their skills against some of the world’s best players in the fast-growing mind game.

“Most of our local players missed the Seoul leg due to visa problems. But with Macau as the next stop before the culmination of the event in Australia late this year, most of our local players can just fly there to participate since it’s a lot cheaper to stay in Macau compared to Korea and Australia,” said Mabanta.

Wally “The Dream” Sombero, arguably the Filipino’s most successful poker player today, said that Macau will be an ideal venue for most local players since familiarity is a plus factor for this kind of competition.

“Most of our players have visited Macau in the past to play poker there. This is a good venue for Filipino players. After the Manila leg last August, wala ng nasalihang tournament ang ating mga players,” said the former police colonel, who made it to the world poker series last year.

The Pokerstars.com, the world’s largest online poker site, announced in its Web site that the first-ever real money No-Limit Texas Hold ’em poker tournament will be held at the People’s Republic of China.
