Car shows and a poker run make for a great weekend

Hudson Valley, NY - Pine Island, Chester and Campbell Hall host car shows and East Side is host to Pitch for Kids

Whew! The weekend of Aug. 18-19 had to be one of the busiest weekends for car shows and poker runs. I managed to fit in three car shows and a poker run. I enjoyed each and every one and was happy to see everyone coming out to support the organizations and charities.

I don't think I need to tell you all that there were some really beautiful, awesome rides out there, too. I have to remember to close my mouth from time to time because it's really not nice walking around the car shows that way, but I couldn't help it. I just couldn't get over the show cars that we are lucky to have in this area. Here's my roundup of the weekend shows.



Pine Island Summer Fest Car Show — Aug. 18
Well, Pine Island Summer Fest car show organizer Bill Majewski of Florida and the Pine Island Summer Fest committee should be very proud of themselves for a successful first car show.



More than 60 cars, trucks and even tractors graced the field by the PLAV on Pulaski Highway in Pine Island. It really makes a show when you have such a variety of vehicles and years. The festival itself was chock-full of events, bands, rides and food. Great job!



Trout Brook Engine and Hose Company of Chester third annual Car Show — Aug. 18
The car show and barbecue were held at Chester Commons on Laroe Road in Chester, a beautiful setting for a car show. Even though the guys were up against other car shows, they didn't do too badly.



The rides that did participate were nothing to sneeze at either. Besides one delicious barbecue, there were door prizes, refreshments and trophies. It may have been their third show, but I can see this show only getting better next year.



Orange County AHRC Classic
Car Show

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! To everyone who volunteered at the Orange County AHRC Classic Car Show on Bull Road in Campbell Hall Aug. 19, and a round of applause to organizers Sue Clarke and Pat Falkena. More than 100 vehicles participated to benefit AHRC.



The organization had not held a car show in a little over 10 years. That was pretty hard to believe when you saw the success of this one. Vendors, food, a penny social and DJ Fred Mulharin, along with the fabulous weather, made this the perfect show. It was great talking with everyone and checking out the fabulous rides.



Renegades and Pitch for Kids Poker Run — Aug. 19
The Renegades Pitch for Kids was founded to enhance the quality of life of young people and their families throughout the Hudson Valley by supporting community organizations whose programs make a positive change in youths, their families and the community. Pitch for Kids has been able to provide grants to local nonprofit organizations.

This year's poker run once again brought out bikers who believe in helping the youth in our area. The run started at Dutchess Stadium and ended at the East Side Moto-Mall in Walden. Rick Zolzer was on hand to give out the awards. Vendors, food, music provided by WPDH and, of course, bikes made for an awesome day.



I really must add that over the years East Side Custom Choppers has helped many charities and organizations raise money and awareness for its causes by offering the use of its facilities.



Present at a couple of their events, including this one, was a representative from Disney Dreams, a nonprofit organization that raises money to send disabled children to Disney World. East Side was instrumental in helping Disney Dreams send not only the children to Disney World, but also their parents. Outstanding, guys!
