Event placement determines World Series POY

The person to accumulate the most points based on his finishing position in World Series of Poker bracelet events will be the tournament's first-ever Player of the Year.

The WSOP made the announcement today, detailing the simple criteria required to put players in contention for the honor.

Points are accumulated based on finishing position in all open bracelet events, with the exception of the H.O.R.S.E championship and the Main Event throughout the 2007 Series.

The title also carries with it some prizes: a trophy, for starters, but also entry to multiple WSOP tournaments in the next year, $5,000 for travel and accommodation, as well as buy-ins for the Main Events at the WSOP Europe, a WSOP circuit event and the 2008 World Series.


"This award puts all poker players on a level playing field and underscores our belief that every bracelet event is important, regardless of field size, buy-in or variety of game," said WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack in a Tuesday release.
