Police, firefighters support W. Va. tables games

Some of West Virginia's finest - policemen and firefighters - are speaking up in support of table games such as poker in the state.

Now that legislation has been approved for certain counties to vote on whether they want to allow table games or not at the race tracks, one county is finding support from its law and safety officials.

Several police chiefs and firefighters in Kanawha County are actively supporting allowing table games according to WVVA-TV in Charleston, W. Va.

Police chiefs Brent Webster, Joe Crawford and Jack Jordan appear in direct-mail fliers supporting the games. Joining them is the state Fraternal Order of Police President Stephen Walker.

Nitro city firefighters Ron King and Corey Dean are also featured.

The fliers urge voters to approve poker, roulette and blackjack tables at the county's Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center.

Walker and the police chiefs listed say the table games will bring jobs and tourism dollars to the county, which could boost police pensions. They're also on record as saying they don't think crime will increase because of the games.
