First-timers run strong at Bayou Poker Challenge

It's been a good week for first-timers at the Bayou Poker Challenge, with several events taken by players without a major tournament title under their belt. And Nisan Cohen just joined the club, bagging his first in $500+$50 No-Limit Hold'em at Harrah's New Orleans.

Event 10 at this year's World Series of Poker Circuit series stop in New Orleans, the tourney saw 622 players square up the buy-in hoping to become the next first-timer to break into the big time.

And Cohen, a 35-year-old store owner from Gainesville, Fla., was the best of the bunch, eventually seizing the chip lead mid-way through the final table and cruising to his first major tournament victory, taking $84,468 plus the gold WSOP Circuit ring.

Taking second was Anita Vasquez, from Houston, Texas, joining Jennifer Harman as the only female to take second place in a Circuit event and leaving Lisa Pickell still the only female WSOP Circuit event winner.

The rest of your final table looked like this:

Place Name Country Prize
1st Nisan Cohen Gainesville, Fla. $84,468
2nd Anita Vasquez Houston, Texas $43,742
3rd David Scarano Seattle, Wash. $24,134
4th Tuck Trentham Deland, Fla. $21,117
5th Mike Booth Jacksonville, Fla. $18,100
6th Kit Riley Dallas, Texas $15,084
7th Aaron Baldwin Oxford, Ga. $12,067
8th "Player Jay" Bender Atlanta, Ga. $9,050
9th Taylor Black Mobile, Ala. $3,318

The $5,000 main event at the Bayou Poker Challenge kicks off today at noon and runs until Wednesday.
