Hachem accepts WPA secretary appoinment

Joe Hachem will help lead a major membership drive for the World Poker Association during the 2007 World Series of Poker, after signing on to serve on the organization's board of directors.

The 2005 WSOP champ was appointed secretary for the organization, which strives to promote professionalism in tournament poker worldwide.

The WPA announced its intentions to launch a major membership drive during this year's World Series with a booth at the main entrance of the tournament area.

"I want to help the World Poker Association grow its membership," Hachem said in a release Friday, "and that means I will be manning the booth from time to time and so will many of my fellow professional players."

Like other WPA members - including board members Lou Krieger, Marcel Luske and Chris Bigler - Hachem has pledged to uphold and support the highest standards of ethical conduct in tournament poker.

All voting members of the WPA are able to have a voice in the organization and can run for positions on committees for ethics and conduct, conferences, international issues, dealer relations rules, government relations and charity events.

Members of the association can register online or sign up at the WPA booth in Las Vegas.

The cost is $50 annually to be a voting member, $25 annually to be a non-voting member and $1,000 to be a founding member.
