Man, upset over loss, allegedly robs poker arcade
A woman was injured when a poker player allegedly beat her up and robbed the establishment in Susupe Friday at noon.
Zi Jin Chun was treated at the Commonwealth Health Center for swelling on the face, bruises and scratches on the arms, and a bruise on the neck.
The suspect, Genero Vega Lansangan, 39, was found hiding inside the restroom of the building where Susupe Poker is located when a police officer came in and arrested him.
Lansangan admitted to a police detective that he beat up Chun and robbed the poker arcade because he was upset when he lost $180 while playing.
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court associate judge Juan T. Lizama imposed a $15,000 cash bail for the defendant's temporary release. Lizama set the preliminary hearing for May 23 at 9am.
Detective Simon T. Manacop stated that Chun had gone to the Susupe Poker on Friday at 12pm to check on her friend. There were no customers at the time so the cashier, Ji Jin Wen, asked Chun to watch the cashier's booth because he was going to clean the air-conditioner outside.
While at the cashier's booth, Chun said that Lansangan asked her for some tissues through the booth's window.
When Chun opened the door and was about to give the tissues, Lansangan walked inside the booth and began punching her in the face.
Chun fought back and managed to run outside where she asked help from Wen.
Wen grabbed a stick and went into the poker room, but the suspect was no longer there. Wen looked for the suspect at the apartment rooms then later noticed that the outside restroom was locked.
Police Officer Jesse Seman arrived and opened the restroom where he found Lansangan sitting on the toilet bowl.
When the police officer left the scene, Wen checked the restroom where he found $960 in $20 bills that were stuffed inside a small bucket filled with water under the sink.
After a crime scene technician photographed the bills, the money was turned over to Wen. Wen said the cashier's box was still short of $600.
