UPC $10k underway at Binion's

The first cards have been shuffled up and dealt in the opening tournament in a series of four televised Ultimate Poker Challenge events this year.

Starting at 2 p.m. (PDT) at Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel in Las Vegas, the UPC $10,000 tournament will run until Sunday. That is, unless there is an unusually high number of entrants.

Organizers promise that if the event has a big enough response, they will extend the tournament to four or five days.

Each player starts off with $30,000 in chips with 75-minute blind levels designed to give players room to compete during each blind level.

The televised final table of the $10,000 No-Limit re-buy tournament starts Sunday and will feature 90-minute blinds.
