Harrah's nixes WSOP dot.net advertising

At this year's World Series of Poker dot.net advertising is out, but players have been given the green light to sport clothing bearing poker room logos.

The 2007 WSOP venue won't contain ads for dot.com poker sites or their dot.net affiliates, Harrah's announced in a statement released this week.

The company's position, however, doesn't impact advertising carried by media companies that cover the event, as they aren't subject to the same gaming-regulatory requirements.

"As a gaming company licensed in more than a dozen jurisdictions in the United States and abroad, Harrah's must follow the guidance of federal law and statement gaming regulators in conducting its business," said WSOP spokesman Gary Thompson.

By next week, Harrah's plans to post rules for the 2007 WSOP on its Web site which detail its new logo policy, Thompson said.

Among the new regulations is a move to allow players to wear promotional clothing with multiple and larger logos.

The company, however, wouldn't comment on whether it has signed a sponsorship agreement for this year's event.

"As for the felts, I have seen blogs and forum threads speculating about who may or may not have sought advertising rights to the WSOP," said Thompson. "Harrah's has a long-standing policy of not commenting on rumors or speculation."
