Bar Poker League awards Main Event seat

Nearly 600 players showed up to compete for a World Series of Poker Main Event seat at The Bar Poker League's third Texas Hold'em State Finals tournament Jan. 27 in Morton, Minn. Barb Silberglitt, from Mora, Minn., won the event to earn the $10,000 seat.

Silberglitt will also be given airfare and money for accommodations in order to compete in the2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Previous state champions are Jamin Neppl and Katie LeBeau.

The state championship is put on by The Bar Poker League which is a free Texas Hold'em league operated by The World Poker Store throughout the state of Minnesota.

Players can take part in weekly tournaments at bars and restaurants where they earn points. They qualify for the state championship by accumulating points over a six-month period.

More than 1,000 of the 17,000 players registered in the league qualified and were invited to the state championship.

"It's great to see the turnout growing more and more with each state finals tournament we host," said Greg Needham, The World Poker Store vice president of marketing.

He continued saying, "Certainly the players enjoy the chance at the big prizes, but the camaraderie and the social aspects of a weekend with friends is what really drives them to play."

Aside from The Bar Poker League, The World Poker Store also hosts charity poker tournaments to bring poker to the masses as well as support a variety of causes including the Trent Tucker Youth Program.
