Hold'em rides wave all the way to Fiji

When poker broke into the mainstream in 2003, no one foresaw just how far the ripples would radiate. It's at least as far as Fiji now, with Nixon Watches announcing the upcoming "High Tide Hold'em," a multi-event battle, including poker, for the world's best surfers.

And poker just keeps getting more popular.

Tavarua, Fiji, is home to two of the best surf breaks in the world, the infamous left-handers "Cloudbreak" and "Restaurants." It's a legendary filming and event spot, and draws the best surfers in the world to its shores for regular pilgrimages.

This February, they'll be adding some Hold'em poker to the agenda, with Nixon Watches' first annual, invitation-only High Tide Hold'em showdown Feb. 8-16.

It's not a poker event per se, as the invited skate, surf, and snow legends will compete in head-to-head battles in spearfishing, tennis, poker, fishing and surfing contests.

A select group of filmers and photographers will also be on-hand to document everything that goes down.
